Headquarters -- Earl T. Strickler NAWCC Chapter 7 Collection

 Collection
Identifier: MG-433

This collection is comprised of documents created by and relating to NAWCC Chapter 7, the Headquarters--Earl T. Strickler Memorial Chapter.

The first series in this collection, Chapter Meetings & Events, includes meeting minutes from 1961-1982 as well as flyers for chapter events. Additionally, there are photocopied clippings of the relevant articles from the NAWCC Bulletin column, "Chapter Highlights". These chapter highlights give a run-down of the goings on of the chapter throughout the years. Furthermore, there are also included a few essays presumably created by chapter members about historical significances in horology, including a history of Pennsylvania horology and Ball Watch Company. This series also includes information on notable events at NAWCC headquarters such as Hamilton Day, a day celebrating retired workers from the Hamilton Watch Company, and the NAWCC 50th Anniversary.

The second series in this collection contains the newsletters published by the chapter from 1997-1992 and the council newsletters from 1995-1998. The headquarters newsletters include information about the NAWCC headquarers, including information on the museum, library, staffing, and other news regarding Headquarters. The council newsletter continues on this theme, created to inform NAWCC chapter leaders about any important NAWCC news at the national headquarters.

Biographical / Historical

The Headquarters -- Earl T. Strickler Memorial Chapter of the NAWCC was originally chartered in 1948 as the York Chapter. From 1948-1972, the chapter was known as the York Chapter, however in 1972 the chapter was renamed to be the Headquarters Chapter. Shortly after the death of Earl T. Strickler in 1974, the chapter name was changed again to Headquarters -- Earl T. Strickler Memorial Chapter. The chapter was recalled in 2015 when the then chapter president requested for the chapter to be closed.
