Drescher, Ernest W.

 Person

Ernest W. Drescher was born in Erie, Pennsylvania in October 1908. He was the first child of his father William, a woodworker, and his mother, Emma Hemse, a housekeeper. They immigrated to America from Bavaria, Germany in the late 19th century, hence Dresher’s evident ability to read (and possibly write) in German. At Hamilton, Drescher was deeply involved in movement design. Based on the records he kept, he also held a keen interest in the design of machines and tools used in watchmaking. This is reflected in the brochures, pamphlets, and other publications in his files, many of which are German, French, or Swiss in origin. He died in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, in July of 1985.
