Jim West Collection

 Collection
Identifier: MG-326

This collection primarily comprises of presentations and research focusing on clocks. The bulk of the information is about tower clocks in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana. While the collection does focus on the South and Midwest, there is information on tower clocks throughout the United States. This includes postcards, photographs, illustrations, presentations, and research.

The presentations appear to have been used at NAWCC events, such as Regional and National conferences. Presentation material in this collection include slides--many in the intended order of the preservation--scripts, CD-ROMs, floppy disks, and recordings of the presentation on audio cassette and VHS. Not all presentations contain all of these formats, but some include all or most, including various recordings on multiple formats.

This collection includes research on various clock companies and clock components, organized by company and subjects. This research includes photocopies as well as detailed illustrations by Jim West of specific clocks by various clockmakers.

There are a number of items related to tower clocks throughout many of the states in the United States. The bulk of these items are related to Texas locations -- towns & counties throughout the state. There is also a sizeable number of items related to Louisiana and Arkansas, as well as Mississippi. These items, mainly organized by location, include postcards, newspaper clippings, negatives, and photographs.

Furthermore, this collection also includes a number of larger copies of illustrations and drawings, possibly by Jim West.

There are several scrapbooks in this collection related to Texas tower clocks. Some of these scrapbooks have clippings, correspondence, and articles, while other scrapbooks are laid out more like the presentations found in this collection, but with photographs rather than slides. It's possible that the pictures in some of the scrapbooks are the same images as the slides from the presentations.

There is information and articles related tot he NAWCC Bulletin. This includes research compiled by West with the possible intention of writing articles for the Bulletin, as well as some material West submitted to the Bulletin.

Furthermore, there are two books about courthouses in various countries and parishes of Texas and Louisiana. These books focus primarily on the courthouses in these states. These books are inscribed and were possibly gifts given to West.
